About
Two girls. A passion for music. A spark for need in the community.

YURRISA - FOUNDER
"Music has been my life and my leg since the very beginning. In the first grade, I remember fondly of a day where I had been upset and my teacher wanted to find a way to lift my spirits. She settled on playing a song called "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, and made the entire class dance to cheer me up. That was the first time I realized the power of connecting with people through music. After that day, I joined my elementary school chorus and my passion for music grew immensely day by day. Expressing myself through my singing has allowed me to dig deeper in uncovering what truly makes me the person that I am. Music is something that has developed throughout history and in which many of us rely on to get us through various aspects of life. Whether it be a need for relief for an upcoming exam, a melody to accompany us while persevering through hard times, or a specific track that sparks one of the greatest privileges of human emotion, nostalgia. I started this organization as a means of reaching aging adults through sound waves, and I am committed to bringing memory provoking melodies to life in my performances, and spreading what I love most within my community."
FABIOLA - CO-FOUNDER
"I first began playing the violin at three years old when I lived in Venezuela. I don't remember what drew me to it, or why I decided to start, but I do remember feeling a deep connection to the instrument. Even after my move to the US, I continued to hone my skills and my love for the violin. It was all I did and all I wanted to do: I participated in music summer camps, joined the school orchestra, had private lessons, played for my family. I may not have been the best player in the world, but I know I was one of the most motivated ones. I looked for every opportunity to play, even performing at a Christmas event at my church. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I stopped playing it, having lost my motivation. But slowly, I returned to the instrument, wanting to put as much care into it as I had before. Now, I want to use my skills to help bring happiness to people; I truly believe in the calming power of music, and how it can get anyone through a bad day. When Yurrisa told me about her idea to start Thru Soundwaves, I immediately signed on, eager to begin."
